WELD — A  local man faces a charge of unlawful trafficking in an illegal drug after police found about 25 harvested marijuana plants and drug paraphernalia at his Phillips Road house.

Travis Pratt, 28, was given a summons on the felony charge after an investigation led police to obtain a search warrant for his property. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20, 2012, Lt. Niles Yeaton of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said in a release Tuesday.

The marijuana weight is estimated to be between 15 and 18 pounds. The dried marijuana was taken to the lab in Augusta on Tuesday for an official weight.

The unlawful trafficking charge, according to Maine law, is made for more than one pound of marijuana. The class of the felony charge depends on the amount, Yeaton said.  Pratt is facing a Class C felony charge for having less than 20 pounds. More than that would have been a Class B, he said.

A drug grinder and roach clip were also found at Pratt’s home.

Deputy B. David Rackcliffe learned that a Weld resident was growing marijuana on Oct. 21. After investigating and determining there was probable cause to believe the information was true, he, with help from Maine State Troopers Randall Keaton and Samuel Quintana and Franklin County Cpl. Nathan Bean, obtained a warrant to search Pratt’s property at 832 Phillips Road.
