As a veteran, I feel that it is my duty to fight to preserve democracy. The right to vote is sacred to me as an American veteran.

We have been able to register to vote on Election Day for the past 38 years in Maine. There is no need to take away this right. I will be voting yes on Question 1 this year.

The Maine Municipal Association and Maine Town and City Clerks’ Association are also supporting a yes vote on Question 1.

Town clerks did not call for the change in the law in the first place. I believe that town clerks pride themselves on their ability to ensure that every vote counts. They would hate to deny someone their basic right and civic duty because they moved to a different part of town, for example. Turning someone away at the polls doesn’t seem right.

We must exercise our right to vote on Nov. 8 this year. We can still register to vote on Election Day. We must preserve this right for ourselves and others by voting yes on Question 1.
