PARIS — Selectmen voted Monday night to use the same evaluation form for the town manager as last year.

The board has been looking to replace the current evaluation form, and Selectman Ryan Lorrain had compiled forms from cities and towns nationwide.

The board voted 4-1 to use last year’s form, with board Chairman Ted Kurtz voting against it.

The Policy and Procedure Committee was tasked with creating an evaluation form for next year. Several selectmen cited the time it would take to create new forms and complete the evaluation.

“We’ve been hashing the roads for how many weeks? We’re going to be hashing this one out, too,” Selectman Kenneth West said.

“You say you’re concerned about the time. I’m concerned about the product,” Kurtz said.

Kurtz called for an evaluation of the entire year, including a self-evaluation form from the town manager.

“What I’m asking for the board to do is to sit down and think, instead of just throwing a number on a list of criteria,” Kurtz said. “What did Phil do?”

Selectman Jean Smart suggested delegating next year’s evaluation form to the Policy and Procedure Committee, based on the town manager’s job description. Then, Smart said, there would be “some correlation between what, on paper, he’s told to do and what we actually evaluate him on.”
