In observance of National Hunting and Fishing Day, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife biologists and presenters will share information about Maine white-tailed deer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at The Maine Wildlife Park in Gray. See how and why biologists collect deer data, learn how to age a deer based on antler beam and teeth; understand the importance of deer wintering areas, join noted Maine white-tail tracker, photographer and author R.G. Bernier for a deer seminar and a book signing; watch local taxidermist Dana Soucier of Trails End Taxidermy mount a trophy buck from start to finish; view the Warden Service “Wall of Shame” and talk deer with local Game Wardens. Deer-related activities for kids will include a deer antler ring toss and the white-tail scavenger hunt.
