David Christopher Steckino

BIDDEFORD – It is with a great deal of sadness that David’s family announces his unexpected death on Aug. 23, 2023, at home in Biddeford after a long-term struggle with alcoholism.

David Christopher Steckino was born on Feb. 6, 1971, in Lewiston. He graduated from Edward Little High School, Auburn, in 1989. He attended the University of Southern Maine and received a B.A. in Education and received his M.A. in School Counseling (K-12) in 1998. He had a 22-year career in High School Guidance Counseling at various high schools in southern Maine, with his last position at Bonney Eagle High School. David was well loved and admired by all of his students and was able to have a profound impact on hundreds of students in their educational journeys and lives.

David had a lifelong love of hockey, playing from the age of 7, well into adulthood. He completed an Outward-Bound Program and developed several ropes courses. David enjoyed all activities outdoors including hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, and was privileged to summit Mount Hood in Oregon in 2010, raising funds for cancer research (Gibson Pavilion and Maine Medical Center).

David’s pride and joy was his son Greyson. He enjoyed any activities that included Greyson, including introducing him to various outdoor activities as well as helping him learn. In addition to his beloved son, Greyson, survivors include his mother, Donna Steckino and her husband Fred Frohardt, of Saco; and sister, Laura Steckino and her partner Amber Janowski, of Saco.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Richard Steckino.

There will be a private celebration of life for the family at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Hope Memorial Chapel in Biddeford. Please share a memory of David at hopememorial.com.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that any memorial contributions may be made on David’s behalf to a charity of your choice.
