The Western Maine Art Group will host a First Friday Reception featuring the artwork of Judson Pealer from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 4. The Main Street Gallery is located at 426 Main Street in Norway.
Pealer has been a member of the gallery for over six years. This is his third rotation as artist of the month. The opening reception will include a welcome and recognition of new members of the gallery as well as a catch-up with what Pealer is doing. He says, “I welcome the idea of introductions of new members because I want people to know each other, to build up this wonderful community, for it is an amazing bunch of people”. The welcome of new members will be at six o’clock.
Known as an abstract painter his latest work has taken a turn and has been exploring the subject of fish and underwater life in a whimsical manner. Pealer uses color for impact and hopefully adds to the joy and humor for the viewer. “Coming out into the world again after the pandemic to me was like coming up into the air,” he says.
“I thought of fish and how I could make them show some of our human tendencies and behaviors.” During his last Artist of the Month showing he focused on fishing based on memories of going out with his Dad when he was a kid.
Jud has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and is a retired pastor. During his ministry, he has continued to draw and paint. The show will last the month. His wife, Sandra, is also a well-known member of the gallery.
Concurrent with Jud’s reception at the Main Street Gallery, the Matolcsy Art Center, 480 Main Street, will feature “The Return of We Three: Judy Schneider, Nikki Millonzi, and Peter Herley.” This exhibit will show their collaborative efforts throughout the month of August.
Refreshments will be served at the reception. Please join us!
