100 Years Ago: 1923

Mrs. Myrtle B. Vickery of Auburn, widow of Charles E. Vickery, was granted an allowance amounting to about $1,700 by Judge W. H. Newell, before whom the petition hearing was held in probate court early In the week. This allowance is in addition to the lawful share to which she is entitled.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Under the auspices of the Androscoggin Valley Art  Association, the fifth annual Sidewalk Art Festival was held today at Kennedy Park in Lewiston, with three Maine residents named a winner and honorable mentions. Over 100 artists from throughout the eastern part of the country, as far south as Florida, exhibited their art works and competed for $600 in prize money.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Catholic education returns to Auburn in September as students from St. Peter’s Elementary School move to the former Sacred Heart school on Minot Avenue. After months of study, the church made the move official when priests announced the decision during Sunday services.
