Hugh Lassen reveals Lewiston’s latest artwork July 6 at Kennedy Park. Lassen began sculpting “Arboreal Figure” about a year ago after bringing a 19,000-pound piece of granite from a quarry in Saint Nazaire, Quebec, to his studio in Cherryfield. The sculpture is the final art installation of the Choice Neighborhood Planning Grant award. Based in part on residents’ input, Lassen created the abstract art that combines nature and a human figure reaching into the sky. Next to Lassen is Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline and Misty Parker, Lewiston’s assistant director of economic development. Lassen also created “Bud Form,” a sculpture at Auburn’s Longley Park, next to the Androscoggin River. Daryn Slover/Sun Journal
