LISBON — Town councilors will decide whether to approve a $12.6 million municipal budget during their meeting Tuesday night.
The proposal, a 15% increase from the current spending plan of $10.9 million, includes the addition of two full-time firefighters and a tax collector to municipal staff.
The addition of two full-time firefighters would cost the town about $186,612 in salary and benefits, and the tax collector would cost $110,150.
Town Manager Glenn Michalowski said the tax rate is projected to increase by about $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value, or $300 for a property valued at $200,000, under the proposal. The exact increase will not be known until July, he said.
Since the budget was initially proposed to the Town Council in March, nearly half a million dollars in additional expenses have been added, including $436,000 for paving, Michalowski said. This was included in the town’s capital improvement plan, but was initially taken out due to concern for the tax rate increase.
Voters approved a $19.9 million school budget last week.
Residents will have the opportunity to share comments and ask questions about the municipal budget during a public hearing at the start of the 7 p.m. meeting at the Town Office.
