It’s a tale of two sister cities.  Auburn, prosperous.  Lewiston, struggling.

One sporting malls, car dealerships and a cornucopia of assorted retail stores. The other prides itself on an abundance of nonprofits, cannabis outlets and homeless shelters.

While Auburn is building middle income housing, Lewiston is turning its downtown into a housing project, mirroring Chicago’s infamous Cabrini- Green.

Mayor Jason Levesque doesn’t take valuable retail property off the tax rolls. Polluting our drinking water? Please! His decisions are based on due diligence, not NIMBY.

In a letter written by Rep. Margaret Craven (“In praise of Mayor Sheline,” June 10) she praised Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline for his availability and speaking for the community.

During my term as mayor, I spent more time in Augusta than my office. I was rarely absent from my mayoral duties. I spoke and represented the average Lewistonian, not the Bates College community.

I got no support from our local state representatives.

Robert E. Macdonald, Lewiston
Former Lewiston Mayor
