John Merrill of West Auburn picked strawberry blossoms, mayflowers and violets on the Huskins farm in West Auburn last Sunday. The mayflowers were a bright pink while the strawberry blossoms and violets were in full bloom. This was announced to The Sun over the phone yesterday afternoon.
50 years ago, 1961
Auburn police last night were holding for questioning an alleged ex-convict who, while touring the city yesterday as a magazine salesman, allegedly walked into several homes in the Smith Street, Denning Street and Pride Road area of the city and was allegedly over-forceful in attempting to make a sale. No charge was immediately placed against him.
25 years ago, 1986
The third annual Great Lewiston-Auburn Mill Festival will feature continuous free entertainment along Lisbon Street beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, as well as an opportunity to view both historical and industrial landmarks in the Twin Cities.
Organizers have chartered buses, mini-buses and even a horse and cart to transport festival-goers between guided tours. Tickets are available 45 minutes before each tour begins.
