The prayer meeting of the Calvary, M. E. church will be held Tuesday evening at 7.30 o’clock. Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Cook, a returned missionary from China, will speak at the home of Mrs. Clara Quimby, 96 Nichols Street. The prayer and class meeting will be held Thursday at the home of Harry Wentworth, of Western Avenue.
50 Years Ago: 1973

Cummings and Mrs. Ralph Raymond. Serving at this event will be from 2: to 7 p.m. to allow those who work an opportunity to attend. Mrs. Henry E. Gervais is serving as general chairman.

State game Warden Scott Colter usually spends his time tracking down poachers, but lately he’s been something of a wildlife midwife.
Within the last two days, he was involved in the delivery of a calf moose whose mother went berserk in a Topsham neighborhood, and performed a Caesarean section on a hapless doe whose legs had become snagged in a drainage grate. Colter said the experience left him with mixed emotions. The moose calf survived and was reported to be doing well under a veterinarian’s care, but the fawn was stillborn.
In any case, the midwifery was a change in Colter’s routine, although not totally unexpected in the spring. “It certainly makes the job interesting.
