Those of Lewiston and Auburn who saw the Boston Prohibition auto here on its tour through Maine and heard the speakers on Main street will be interested in the following report in the Boston Post:
“We found it an easy matter to obtain both beer and whiskey in almost any quantity almost anywhere in Maine. In spite of this fact, we firmly believe in the policy of prohibition in the State. Strict enforcement of the law by officials elected for that purpose would demonstrate to the world that prohibition is a success.” John A. Nichols, secretary of the Twentieth Century Pledge Signing Club, and one of the most prominent Prohibitionists in the country.
50 years ago, 1961
A water skiing tournament, the Taylor Pond Open, will be a feature of the annual field day of the Androscoggin County Fish and Game Association at the Taylor Pond grounds this weekend.
The water ski events will be run off on both Saturday and Sunday because of the numerous events on the tournament program. Events are scheduled to get underway at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Lewiston firefighters plan this year’s firemen’s ball for Oct. 4 at the Lewiston Multi-Purpose from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Planning committee members are Nel Baillargeon, Paul Fournier, Dave Gideon, Richard Grondin and Donald LaGrange. The theme this year will be “Year of Liberty ’86” and entertainment will be provided by the C’est Si Bon Orchestra. Tickets are $12 per couple.
