DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am seeking volunteers to help perform some tasks at the McLaughlin Garden & Homestead, a public nonprofit garden in South Paris. We are always seeking volunteers to help us while we are open from May through November.

Our first volunteer block is our garden cleanup day April 27. The timeframe is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be served as a reward for a morning’s work.

Power Propagators is a group of volunteers who pot up plants that have been dug from the garden to sell once they are ready. This group meets the second Tuesday of the month from 9:30 to 11 a.m. beginning May 9 and running through Sept. 12.

Each Thursday during the season, a group of volunteers meets to help weed in the garden. Come and join the gardener with this chore. We would love to see some new faces in the garden.—Becky, So. Paris

DEAR SUN SPOTS: You have always been good about helping us get the word out, so I am coming to you again to ask for help.

The clothing and thrift store in Leeds on Church Hill Road is expanding its hours. We will be open Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. This summer, it will expand hours to the first and third Thursday of the month. The hours will be from 4:30 until 7 p.m.

The funds raised go to support the food pantry and the needs of the community through Leeds Community Church.

We have clothing for adults, children and babies. We also have books, toys, kitchen items, costumes, seasonal decorations, blankets, sheets and much more. The prices are reasonable. Come and check it out.—No name, no town

ANSWER: This is a cute little shop with lots going for it. I hope you will support it by donating items you no longer need and shopping there. Remember, it helps not only the community, but the entire planet when you thrift.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is in response to Terri’s letter, printed in Sun Spots on April 14, regarding the fixing and selling of her used washers and dryer. I think Affordable Appliance Co., Inc. in Lewiston at 207-754-4377, Brown’s Appliance and Service in Auburn at 207-212-3444 and Wayne’s Appliance Service in Turner at 207-754-6521 could help.—No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: I believe Affordable Appliance is only interested in older washers and dryers, and when I spoke with Jon at Brown’s Appliance and Service, he explained they only do in-home repair and do not buy or pick up used appliances because there is no space to store them. At this writing, I was unable to find out about Wayne’s, so if any readers know if this would be a good lead for Terri, or if Wayne sees this, please write in.
