Sophomore guard Emily Strachan’s stellar performances for the Central Maine Community College women’s basketball team did not go unnoticed by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
Strachan was recently named to the 2023 WBCA Two-Year College Coaches’ All-American team. The Lewiston graduate was one of 10 players named to the team.
“These young women have worked to elevate their teams and themselves to an elite level of competition. Through their exceptional talents on the basketball court, they have also lifted the women’s game,” WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew said in a press release.
Strachan played a key role in the backcourt for the Mustangs, who captured the Yankee Small College Conference championship by beating Southern Maine Community College 66-48 on March 5. Strachan scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds in that game.
CMCC moved on to play Penn State-Beaver in the USCAA DII National Tournament on March 14 in Petersburg, Virginia. The Mustangs lost 56-50 and finished the year at 27-4. Strachan also scored 15 points in that tournament game.
In her second season with the program, Strachan played in 27 games, averaging 13.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. She also shot 69.9% from the free-throw line.
Alexia Dizeko of South Georgia Technical College was named the 2023 WBCA Two-Year College Player of the Year as well as a WBCA All-American.
