DEAR SUN SPOTS: Greetings from the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. I thought Sun Spots readers may be interested in our Dash for Dogs 5K Run and Strutt Your Mutt Walk on Sunday, April 30, starting at 9 a.m.

This is a fun, fast fundraiser for the society, and it will happen right on Strawberry Avenue in Lewiston, meeting up at the society with the run/walk on the scenic Androscoggin River Path down to Sunnyside Park and back. What a great opportunity to kick off spring by getting outside with our canine friends while raising funds to help needy canines in the shelter.

There are prizes for the fastest finishers by age bracket, as well as for the top fundraiser.

ANSWER: How relieved you must have been to get your phone back! I once lost my phone and it was found in the very wet, slushy Hannaford parking lot. The woman who found it was a certified nursing assistant who had just gotten off her night shift. I had the phone set to an emergency number and she not only contacted me but returned the completely unharmed phone to me herself. I’m so glad you and your phone have been reunited.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: What a helpful column you have! I am a new Lewiston Sun Journal subscriber. Regarding the Sun Spots letter awhile back from the reader who had a concern about the plastic wrappers her daily newspapers are delivered in, shortly after receiving my first rural delivery, I knew exactly what the newspaper’s wrapper purpose would accomplish.

Instead of reaching for a paper towel while preparing my daily fresh fruits and vegetables, one or two plastic sleeves work wonderfully to hold the peelings; a paper towel saved and a plastic paper sleeve re-purposed.

It would be interesting to hear any newspaper sleeve repurposes your readers may have. They always generously share some great ideas!

I am also very grateful for my paper being in a plastic sleeve as I don’t have a porch or a mailbox. The sleeve keeps my newspaper out of the elements in inclement weather. — Patricia, Norway
