NORWAY — Western Foothills Land Trust and Stephens Memorial Hospital are launching a free weekly spring Nordic walking program.

Scheduled to start Wednesday, April 19, participants can join in on guided walks through the Roberts Farm Preserve, 64 Roberts Road, and on the new Farm-to-Town trails linking Roberts Farm to downtown.

Nordic walking is a low-impact exercise that combines walking with the use of poles to engage the upper body. It’s a strong way to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength and balance while being outdoors, according to a news release from Kelli Shedd with the land trust.

The program will run from 9:30-11 a.m. every Wednesday, April-June, and is open to all ages and fitness levels. Participants will be led by experienced instructors who will provide guidance on proper technique and form. A limited supply of poles will be available for participants to borrow who do not have their own.

This program reflects the partnership between the land trust and the hospital, providing opportunities for healthy outdoor recreation.

“We’re thrilled to work with the hospital to offer this new program for our community,” said Lee Dassler, executive director for Western Foothills Land Trust. “Nordic walking is a fun and effective way to stay active, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone out on the trails.”
