WEST PARIS — There are 45 articles on the warrant for Town Meeting in West Paris. The meeting will be held Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m. at the Ring-McKeen American Legion Post No. 151, 6 Church Street. Because of damage from burst pipes, the meeting will not be held at the Agnes Gray School Gym, as was previously posted.
Most of the articles have the recommended approval by the budget committee and select board and the monies are for various departments for expenditures.
Article 19 asks for $21,020 for recreational programs ($12,940) and ball field maintenance ($8,080). While the budget committee recommend this amount. Town Manager, Joy Downing recommends less: $17,840. for recreational programs ($11,740) and ball field maintenance ($6,100).
Article 39 is to, “reduce the 2023 tax commitment by $739,400.
Under Article 38, five non-profits would receive $250 each. They are: Androscoggin Home Health, Seniors Plus, Sexual Assault Prevention, Tri-County Mental Health and Safe Voices.
Article two at the Town Meeting will be to select people to fill three open positions . Nominations are taken on the floor at the meeting.
First is a three-year term for select board and overseer. Chairman Dale Piirainen’s term ends in March and he is not seeking re-election.
A three-year water district trustee position is open and will be decided.
Finally, Natalie Andrews has stepped down as School Administrative director, MSAD-17. Her one-year term as a board member will be filled, too.
