PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Law enforcement officials in Maine say a manhunt that shut down part of Portland’s East End is over.

The Portland police department took a man into custody Friday afternoon after officers, some armed with assault rifles, converged on the scene.

At one point, police were using a loudspeaker to communicate with the man, who was believed to be in some woods.

The Coast Guard sent a boat to the East End with a police officer on board and the capability of using a loudspeaker to communicate with those on shore.
