Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque, left, reacts Friday after scoring a goal during a friendly game of foosball against U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, right, and Auburn Police Chief Jason Moen, next to her. Collins was visiting the Auburn Police Activities League Community Center on Chestnut Street, which is to receive $3 million from the city’s share of American Rescue Plan Act funds to build a new facility. The center is receiving an additional $3 million in the government funding package that was signed into law last week. Senator Collins was there yesterday to celebrate that new funding, which she secured through her role on the Appropriations Committee. Levesque announced that two-thirds of the estimated $8.6 million project has been raised so far. Groundbreaking is expected to begin this spring. Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal
U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, right, listens Friday as Rita Beaudry, Auburn grant manager and Police Activities League Community Center board member, talks about Anita’s Closet. The closet was named after a former Auburn teacher whose father-in-law is a large benefactor for the program that provides clothing and much needed personal supplies to area youth who visit the center on Chestnut Street.
