DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding Margie and the coffee pot (Thursday, Dec. 28. Sun Spots), the best coffee pot I have found is a Melitta Model 46894A (Type A75).

We have the one with a stainless steel carafe — no danger of broken or chipped glass pots.

I am 76 and like good coffee, but want a simple system. This is a drip system — you pour water into the reservoir, it heats it then drips it through the ground coffee that you put into a paper or reusable filter and into the carafe. This is not a thermal carafe and there is no warming plate, so coffee will get cold if left in it.

I am so relieved to not worry about glass and I am pleased with the coffee quality. I am not awake enough in the morning to try to produce a gourmet coffee. I just want a good “cuppa” and this coffee pot delivers.

I got this a few years ago, so check with Melitta by calling 1-888-635-4882 or 1-877-293-9091 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday through Friday in Clearwater, Florida, or see online updates on what are available.

Home Depot shows the Melitta Aroma Tocco Thermal Drip 8-cup coffee maker for less than $130. It has a stainless carafe and is listed as a best-seller.

Thanks for your wonderful column.—Celia, Auburn

ANSWER: What a thorough answer you have given us, Celia. Great job.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I got a new cellphone for Christmas and would like to recycle my old one. I have read about this in the column before, but did not save the information. Please help me with this.—Greta, no town

ANSWER: If you bought your cellphone at a store, such as US cellular, Verizon, T-Mobile or AT&T, start with it. You can also check out the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Electronics Donation and Recycling page — www.epa.gov/recycle/electronics-donation-and-recycling — to learn about recycling or donating your cellphone.

Staples accepts used electronics for recycling. The Lewiston store is at 855 Lisbon St. Contact it first — 207-753-0779 — to check if it is accepting electronics.

Lowe’s, Home Depot and the Lewiston Solid Waste Facility also accept cellphones.

Cell Phones for Soldiers — www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com — and  the Coalition Against Domestic Violence — cadv.org/donate-a-phone — will also accept them.

Before you turn in your cellphone, you must erase all of your data and information.

For an iPhone, go to “Settings”, click “General,” scroll down to the bottom and click “Reset,” click “Erase All Content and Settings” and click “Erase iPhone.”

For an Android cellphone, go into “Settings” and encrypt the data. Then do a factory reset by going to “Settings,” click “Backup and Reset,” scroll down and click “Factory data reset” and click “Reset Device.”

On some cellphones, press the Menu button and tap “Settings.” Scroll down and click “Privacy,” click “Factory Data Reset” and then “Erase Internal Storage” to erase all data.

If you cannot  turn the cellphone on, go to the web site for your device, log in to the account with your password and do everything from there, or contact customer support.

I have mentioned this before, but some libraries have staff members who offer free tech support, if you need more assistance.
