100 Years Ago: 1922
The W. T. Grant Co’s store, which has been undergoing extensive repairs for several months, will be closed Saturday until Dec. 9, for rearrangements of fixtures and goods for a reopening.
50 Years Ago: 1972
(from a Dec 1 Journal photo) Adult Girl Scout leaders from Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin Counties met this week at the home of Mrs. Earl Watkins. 259 Minot Ave., Auburn, to discuss plans for a leaders’ seminar. The seminar, “Scouting on the Move,” will be held on Jan.17 at the United Methodist Church of Auburn. Left to right in the picture are Mrs. David Ellingwood of West Paris, Mrs. Robert Mathieu of Lewiston with her young son, Michael, Mrs. Watkins and Mrs. Douglas Goodspeed of Portland, standing, Mrs. Gerard Turgeon of Lewiston, Mrs. Curtis Whitman of Norway and Miss Karen Zielinski of Auburn. Additional details regarding the seminar will be announced later.
25 Years Ago: 1997
The Capt. Frank W. Hulett VFW Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 10 at the post home. At a recent meeting it was decided to hold a Bingo party at the South Paris Veterans’ Home Dec.6. Anyone wishing to attend should meet at the post home at 1 p.m. to carpool.
The group voted to donate money to help purchase gifts for the children’s Christmas party December 14.
Linda Pearl announced that the special flags are selling fast. Anyone interested in buying one may stop at the post after 2 p.m. The cost $1.50 for one or $2.50 for two. Money raised from this project will be used for community service.
