I’ve proudly served as Oxford County commissioner for many years. I’m an independent with no party affiliation. This has allowed me to make decisions based on what I think is in the best interests of my friends and neighbors. No political considerations.
Augusta is quite another situation. Party cooperation is important. The Legislature and the executive branch are elected to set the overall tone for state government. In order to be effective, all legislators must work within the tone defined by the parties.
Rep. Dick Pickett has been a good representative of his district within our county. He’s worked two years to find the perfect successor.
Tammy Schmersal-Burgess is that person. I’ve known Tammy for years, and she is a bright independent thinker who will stand up for her constituents.
I hope all my Republican, Democrat and independent friends to go to the polls and cast their ballot for Tammy.
