BROWNFIELD — Jimmie Veitch of White Mountain Mushrooms plans to give a guided mushroom foray from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Tenmile River Demonstration Forest, located at 600 Notch Road. The event is offered through the South Paris-based Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District.
During the hike those who attend can learn about the mushrooms that grow in Maine. Topics covered will include identification, ecology, edibility and utility.
Participants are invited to bring fresh examples of mushrooms from their own locale (in paper bags or wrapped in paper towel). No prior mushrooming experience is needed.
This event is rain or shine, so people should come prepared for the weather. The event will only be canceled if conditions are severe.
Admission is free, but a $15 donation is recommended to help cover the cost of this program.
Participants must register ahead of time. To learn more and register, visit oxfordcountyswcd.org/workshops.
