NORWAY — Norway Memorial Library is pleased to announce an artist reception for Sissy Gamache on Wednesday, August 24, from 5:30-6:30 pm. The reception will include a brief talk by the artist, and time to wander through the exhibit, ask questions and provide feedback.
The “Mortals and Immortals: My World of Dreams” exhibit features thirty-six paintings and drawings using watercolor, crayons, pencils, and digital work. Her surrealist and abstract art comes from the subconscious, dreams, images, and thoughts. Her work is a stream-of-consciousness style reflecting and projecting her inner world. She says, “I don’t allow the thinking process when I am painting. I follow my heart and guts. Sometimes I even close my eyes when I am painting.”
Sissy was born in Hungary, raised in Costa Rica, and lives in New York. She is an actor, editor, director, interviewer, and artist who has never taken an art or drawing class. She started painting because her father, a journalist, thinker, and writer who supported her art, passed away in 2014. He told her, “Start painting and explore everything with your hands, explore with crayons, oil, and watercolor, even with your computer, and start creating.”
Sissy has a television show on MNN, a Manhattan station. She invites followers on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube Channel m.youtube.com/user/sissygamache. Her husband, World Champion boxer Joey Gamache, now trains boxers.
The reception is free to attend and open to the public. The art exhibit is open through September anytime the library is open. There is a guest book in the reference room for visitor comments. For more information, call 743-5309 ext. 1.
