LEWISTON — To help provide relief from the extreme heat forecast for Thursday, the Lewiston Public Library will be open as a “cooling space” for city residents.
Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s.
“Combined with high humidity, temps will “feel” like the upper 90s to 100 degrees,” according to the city’s announcement.
The cooling space will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the library’s Callahan Hall on the third floor. There will be water and restrooms for the public. The library will still hold its regular hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.
“The temps and humidity will be quite oppressive on Thursday,” Deputy City Administrator Brian O’Malley wrote in the news release. “We want to make sure that individuals have a place to take a break from the heat, and Callahan Hall will be a cool, spacious location.”
