Bridge results
LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on June 7 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Flight A winners were: 1st, Fred Letourneau and Lucille Theriault; tied at second, David Lock and Patricia Garcia with Michael Quinn and Tom Collins; 4th, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner; tied at fifth, Patricia Quinn and Jeanine Kivus with Mary Trafton and Kathleen Burden.
Flight B winners were: 1st, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Tirner; 2nd, Mary Trafton and Kathleen Burden. Flight C winners were: 1st, Mary Trafton and Kathleen Burden; 2nd, Claire Lyons and Helen Little. Games are held at 9 a.m. Tuesdays.
The club also met on June 8 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: 1st, David Lock and Patricia Garcia; 2nd, Luke Merry and Paul Barber. Another game will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15. A partner is guaranteed at all local games. For further information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.
Rec openings
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Recreation Department wishes to inform residents that numerous activities scheduled throughout the summer still have openings available. Programs with openings include Camp Smiles, youth tennis instruction program, summer track and field program, summer basketball skills and drills program, Kennedy Park pool aquatics program, summer gymnastics and summer girls basketball skills and drills program.
Eastern Star
AUBURN — Pioneer Chapter No. 11 Lisbon Falls, Order of the Eastern Star, will host the Grand Family of Maine at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Auburn Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. The Grand Officers of the Grand Chapter of Maine will be exemplifying the degrees of the Order. A reception for Stephanie Dupal, worthy grand matron, and John Cousins Sr., worthy grand patron, will be held after the meeting. Refreshments will follow. All members of the order are invited.
Nature hikes
NEW GLOUCESTER — Guided nature hikes will be offered at 10 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26. Hikers will cover an area of flora and fauna extending from the historic village through the Shaker fields and woods to Loon’s Point on the lake and then across the footbridge that crosses Aurelia’s Cascade. Carol Beyna, a trained naturalist, will be the guide. Fee is $5 for adults, $2 for children, no charge under 6.
Hand dovetails
NEW GLOUCESTER — Master craftsman Chris Becksvoort will lead a workshop on how to make basic hand dovetailed drawers on Saturday, June 18, at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26. POLAND SPRING — The Poland Spring Preservation Society Summer Concert Series will begin its 2011 season with a performance by Denny Breau on Monday, June 20, at the All Souls Chapel at Poland Spring Resort. Show time is 7:30. Tickets are $7.50. For more information, call 998-4142.
