FARMINGTON — Registrations for summer youth programs offered by Farmington Recreation Department begin Monday, June 13.
Only Farmington residents may register for the wading pool swim program Monday beginning at 9 a.m. at the Community Center on Middle Street. Starting Tuesday any vacancies are open to children in Farmington and surrounding towns.
There are two sessions for the program held Monday through Thursday: June 20 to July 14 and from July 18 to Aug. 11 for ages three to seven. These are held at the Hippach Field pool.
Registration for the Sumner P. Mills swim program for ages five to 18 also begins on Monday. Swim instruction is offered at the University of Maine at Farmington Fitness and Recreation Center during two sessions, June 20 to July 7 and from July 11 to 28.
The Hippach Field playground begins June 20 for ages seven to 10. Farmington residents may register starting at 4 p.m. Monday at the Community Center. Registration appointments scheduled every 15 minutes are recommended. Sign-up for remaining vacancies begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday for Farmington and nonresident children.
A mountain biking challenge is scheduled for June 20 to 23 from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 10 to 16. It is taught by Mt. Blue teacher, Greg Veayo. Class size is limited, early registration advised.
An introduction to golf for ages nine to 12 is offered this summer in two sessions, June 28 to July 14 and from July 19 to Aug. 4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Sandy River Golf Course.
Other programs offered this summer include:
* Soccer 101 for grades three to eight takes place on June 27, 29 and July 1, 5 and 7 at the Hippach Field.
* Supervised fishing for ages six to 10 on July 1 at Abbott Park Pond. Enrollment limited to first-time participants.
* Tennis instruction for ages seven to 12 begins a first session from July 5 to 21 and again from July 26 to Aug. 11. The three-week programs take place at the Hippach Field courts.
* Paul Blauvelt baseball program for ages five to 12 is scheduled from July 11 to 27 on Mondays and Wednesdays.
* Youth self defense for ages seven to 12 is offered on Thursdays from June 23 through July 28.
* Backyard sports camp for students entering grades four to six is planned for Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 12 through 28.
* Introduction to field hockey for students entering grades four to six takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays starting July 13 through Aug. 1.
* Pre-season soccer camp for students entering grades one to eight is offered Aug. 1 to 4 at the Hippach Field.
