DEAR SUN SPOTS: For the second year there seems to be absolutely no work being done to complete the Auburn Suburban Little League fields on Stevens Mills Road. What is the problem? Has the project been abandoned? What a shame. It seems to have started off so well, and lots of land has already been cleared. Will it ever be completed!? — Louise Dufour
ANSWER: According to Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque: “It’s all coming together now, and I expect official notification to come from our partners soon concerning their participation in the project.” He said work is ongoing and he expects it to be completed in the fall of 2023.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I love to read your column. You are so helpful. So Sun Spots nation, I need help looking for a plastic, any-color bird bath and a hummingbird feeder with a suction cup to put on my bay window. I’ve looked tons of places with no luck: flower shops, big-box stores, little mom and pop stores. Riverside Flea Market has for sale signs on the property so I’m not sure if they’re open. I haven’t seen any action yet. Thanks for all your help. — Alice, Bowdoin
ANSWER: Readers, please respond if you can help Alice. Meanwhile, we found out that Riverside Flea Market in Lisbon is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. Please call 207-353-2420 for table reservation and any additional information.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are writing to ask for help from our communities. We are seeking more volunteers from Franklin and Oxford counties to work with our elderly clients, ages 70-90, who are waiting for someone to visit them, provide companionship, and to help them with their grocery shopping and errands. We really need support for some of our seniors in the Carthage, Dixfield, Farmington, Livermore Falls/Jay, Rumford and Strong areas. It would be great to have volunteers from these communities.
SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage, & Hope) is a Program of Catholic Charities. We have wonderful volunteers who are matched to our elderly clients. They provide three to four hours a week to a senior by providing home visits or by assisting them with transportation for their grocery shopping or errands. If you are interested in volunteering with the elderly, we would love to talk to you about joining our program and volunteering with us!
For more information about becoming a SEARCH volunteer with us, please call our Jay site office at 200-0844. We will then send you a volunteer application and brochure. We hope that you will join our program by becoming a volunteer and help make a difference in the life of a senior in your community! With heartfelt gratitude, — Wendy Russell, program director, wrussell@ccmaine.org.
