AUBURN — The city will unveil two new memorials Friday morning, May 27, at Mount Auburn Cemetery honoring veterans who served America in wartime and military conflict.
The idea for the two new memorials grew out of an outdoor ceremony held by the city last year at a memorial at Mount Auburn Cemetery erected by the Lions Club of Auburn in 1946. The memorial listed major conflicts in American history up to World War II and later updated to include the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
According to an announcement from the city, “On that day, Mayor Jason Levesque promised those in attendance that the city would erect new stones to appropriately recognize a new generation of veterans, from Grenada to Panama, from the Cold War to the Persian Gulf War and the Global War on Terror. The Auburn City Council appropriated funding, the stones were designed, and now they are done and are ready to be unveiled for our community. Promises made, promises kept.”
The dedication will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Attendees are urged to park on Summer Street.
