BRUNSWICK — Will Byrne had eight goals and an assist as Bowdoin cruised to a 23-8 win over Colorado College in the second round of the NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse tournament on Saturday.

Patrick Fitzgerald added five goals for Bowdoin (17-2), which will play at home again at 3 p.m. Sunday against St. Lawrence. The Saints advanced with a 15-14 victory over Cortland.

Byrne scored four times in the first quarter as Bowdoin jumped out to a 7-3 lead.

Zach Chandler added two goals and four assists, while Chris Fowler had two goals and three assists for the Polar Bears.

Anders Erickson, Jack Haims and Dylan Wells each scored twice for Colorado College (7-9).

SUNY GENESEO 19, ST. JOSEPH’S 2: The Knights (15-3) scored seven goals in the first quarter and six more in the second to hand the Monks (20-1) their first loss of the season and advance to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament, in Middlebury, Vermont.

Molly Brown tallied five goals, while Madelynn Brown had four goals and three assists for SUNY Geneseo, which will play Middlebury on Sunday.

Emily DeJohn and Margaret Rosachi combined for five saves for SUNY Geneseo.

Shauna Clark and Megan Mourmouras scored for St. Joseph’s. Morgan Wright had eight saves for the Monks.

BASEBALL

NESCAC TOURNAMENT: Brady Slinger went 3 for 5 with three RBI and Hamilton (20-16) eliminated Colby (24-13) from the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament with an 11-3 win in Hartford, Connecticut.

Colby’s Drew Miller drove in two runs with a single and a double.

Earlier, the Mules were knocked into the losers’ bracket of the double elimination tournament when they lost a 16-14 slugfest against Middlebury.

Matthew Panker was 4 for 5 with a double, a triple, four RBI and a run scored for the Mules. But Middlebury (28-11) scored four runs in the third inning, three in the fourth and five in the ninth, then held off a five-run rally by Colby in the bottom of the ninth.

Alec Ritch was 3 for 6 with four RBI for Middlebury. Beau Root went 2 for 3 with three walks, four runs and three RBI.

Middlebury and Hamilton will meet in the championship round Sunday, with Hamilton needing two wins to take the title.
