HARRISON — Violinist Jennifer Elowitch is founder and artistic director emerita of the Portland Chamber Music Festival.
Over the 25 years of her tenure, PCMF evolved into a cornerstone of Portland’s vibrant arts community. “I can’t wait to join SLLMF musicians for their 50th anniversary. I’ve played with many festival artists, but never with Music Director Mihae Lee. We have been friends for years but have never had the opportunity to play together. So that will be a real highlight on my return.”
Currently Elowitch is director of music at Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Massachusetts, where she was the recipient of E.E. Ford Faculty Awards for Exceptional Merit in 2016 and 2021. A noted chamber musician, she has appeared as a guest artist with Electric Earth Concerts, the Mark Morris Dance Group, Winsor Music, and Music from Salem.
Elowitch is the assistant principal second violinist of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and performs often with the Boston Symphony, with whom she has toured Europe and Japan. In addition to her work at Walnut Hill, she has served on the faculties of the Longy School of Music, the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and the University of New Hampshire.
Having presented workshops and masterclasses as a guest at New England Conservatory and the Curtis Institute of Music, Elowitch recently served as a guest teacher at the Yehudi Menuhin School in the UK. Her last appearance at Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival was in 2005.
Elowitch grew up in Portland. She graduated from Deering High School in the eighties and still considers Maine her home.
Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival will perform Tuesdays at 7:30 pm at Deertrees Theatre in Harrison, between July 12 and Aug. 9. Committed to bringing live classical music to the lakes region of Maine, SLLMF has been performing at Deertrees Theatre in Harrison for the last 30 years.
