BOOTHBAY — A three-run second and third innings helped Telstar ditch Boothbay with an 8-5 victory in a baseball game on Wednesday.
Colby Hastings had an RBI double in the third inning while Andrew Leighton and Wyatt Lilly each had a RBI singles that drove in a run to give Telstar a 6-4 lead. Lilly finished the game with two hits and two RBIs.
Telstar (1-0) starter Will Doyle pitch 4 2/3 innings, striking out eight, allowing five runs and six hits. At the plate, he had two hits and three RBIs. Cameron Palmer came in relief, going 2 2/3 innings and belting a pair of hits.
Boothbay (0-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
MADISON 7, WINTHROP 6: After blowing a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, the Bulldogs scored three runs of their own in the bottom half to come away with the MVC victory in Madison.
Hunter Tewksbury had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice for the Bulldogs, while Austin Hay had a single and scored twice. Jackson Theriault started and struck out eight in five innings, and Dominic Mercier earned the win on the mound.
Logan Baird and Andrew Fay each doubled for the Ramblers, and Fay scored three runs.
SOFTBALL
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 13, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 5: Brooke Brown smacked a two-run home run in the third inning and had two other hits in the Falcons’ (1-0) win over the Phoenix (0-1) in Jay.
Sophomore Brooke Bennett had a double and two singles while driving in two runs. Teammate Mallorie Bourret added three singles, freshman Ali Mazza contributed two hits and scored three runs and fellow freshman Madisyn McLean had a double.
Pitcher Ali Legere picked up the win for Mountain Valley.
MaKinlee Holt had three hits for Spruce Mountain, and Leah Burgess and Jaydn Pingree struck out four Mountain Valley batters in the loss.
MADISON 9, OAK HILL 0: Brooke McKenney tossed a three-hit shutout while striking out 16 batters as the Bulldogs cruised to an MVC win over the Raiders in Madison.
Lilly Levesque smacked a solo home run for Madison (1-0).
Amara Denis had a hit for Oak Hill (0-1).
BANGOR 4, EDWARD LITTLE 3: Cassie Ireland’s RBI single drove in Rae Barron for the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Rams (1-0) a season-opening win over the Red Eddies (0-1) in Bangor.
Barron had a RBI single in the eighth to tie the game at 3-3.
Cassidy Richardson had two hits and a RBI for Bangor. Casey Carter went the distance in the circle, striking out nine and allowing three runs, nine hits and nine walks.
Erin Cowie and Amanda Raymond each had two hits for Edward Little. Cowie scored a run and Richardson had an RBI. Leah Thibodeau threw 11 strikeouts while allowing four runs and eight hits.
Edward Little went up 2-0 in the third inning when Thibodeau scored on a bases-loaded walk and Maddie Emmert had a sacrifice fly.
