DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking to give away crocheted lap blankets to nursing homes or other local charities. I also have a baby blanket to give away.
I have lots of men’s clothes, shoes etc. to donate as well. I am interested in giving these to a local clothes closet that gives them away to local people. Can Sun Spots or readers give me the name of places that accept these items at this time? I will be looking for replies in the column. — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: The Bolster Heights Residential Care Facility comes to mind for the lap blankets. The facility is at 26 Bolster St. in Auburn. Please call the activities director at 784-1364.
For the baby blanket and men’s items, in the Rolodex I have listings for these clothing banks in the area: Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Food and Clothing Bank at the MTM Center, 18 School St., in Lisbon , 353-6002; High Street Congregational Church Pantry, 106 High St. in Auburn, 784-1306; Hope Haven Gospel Mission Pantry, 209 Lincoln St. in Lewiston, 783-6086; Loaves and Fishes, 61 Lisbon Rd. in Sabattus, 375-8399; Pathway Vineyard Church, 9 Foss Road in Lewiston, 784-9500; Seventh-day Adventist Church, 310 Minot Ave. in Auburn at 689-3107; and St. Mary’s Pantry & Nutrition Center, 208 Bates St. in Lewiston, 513-3841.
Please call first to check on the hours and what these organizations are accepting at this time. Readers, please send in your suggestions.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to donate a Cinderella sheet set and comforter to Safe Voices if they are able to use these items. When I tried to contact them, I was unable to add text to the message for some reason. I’m looking for contact information as well as information as to what the organization might need besides money. — No name, Auburn
ANSWER: To find out what Safe Voices can use, you can call 795-6744 or email Emily Mitchell at emitchell@safevoices.org. On its website at http://www.safevoices.org/, there is an Amazon wish list that includes winter clothing/outerwear (all sizes), underwear and bras (all sizes), baby monitors, diapers and wipes in all sizes, laundry soap, fabric softener, bleach, silverware/dishes/cups, towels, pillows, mattress and pillow covers, full size toiletries (example shampoo/condition, soap, body wash), socks, hair elastics, bobby pins, small household appliances, pots and pans, coffee, sugar and bakeware.
Gift cards for Hannaford and Walmart are also very useful, as are gas cards.
The organization has minimal storage space so please call ahead to be sure there is an immediate need for these items.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to say a big thank you to the wonderful lady who helped me move in. It was snowing and cold, but she stopped what she was doing and helped me. She gives anyone a hand and no grass grows under her feet. She’s so kind and has such a big smile. She was just wonderful. I want her to know how special she is and understand how much she helped me. Thanks to this dear lady for your kindness and friendship. — Nancy, Auburn
ANSWER: Moving can be so physically taxing and stressful. I’m so glad you had someone come to your aid.
