LEWISTON — Building Bridges Maine, an affiliate of Braver Angels, is hosting a one-hour media literacy session starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Braver Angels is a national citizens organization working to unite Americans of all political views in an alliance to depolarize the nation, including through workshops, debates and music.

The Zoom will be facilitated by Karla Doremus-Tranfield of Camden-based KDT Business Strategies. It  will feature Judith Meyer, editor of the Sun Journal, Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel.

According to Meyer, “Healthy people, healthy businesses, healthy governments — healthy communities — are all best informed and engaged by independent community journalists who examine school budgets, expose scandals, question practices and politics, scrutinize environmental trends, who champion good and who dare to challenge fear and falsehoods.”

Communities are also “more resilient and better able to thrive when informed by truth,” she said.

The event will help consumers identify fact-based journalism and distinguish trusted news sources from the growing swirl of misinformation and disinformation online.

There is no cost to attend but preregistration is required. To register, go to: braverangels-org.zoom.us
