Nancy A. Davenport

AUBURN – Nancy A. Davenport, 81, of Auburn died Feb. 15, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born in Lewiston August 10, 1940, a daughter of the late Clarence and Edith (Harlow) Arnold.

She was educated in local schools and graduated from Edward Little High School class of 1958. This is where she met her “high school sweetheart”, Henry W. Davenport III. They were married on July 1, 1960. They were inseparable and spent many happy years together until he passed on Sept. 16, 2014.

Nancy worked in retail industries (Pecks, Hall and Knight, Lewiston Supply, and IGA in East Auburn). She was also the librarian for Washburn school for a few years. Her last job was at Goodwill Industries where she spent several years as a clerk before retiring in 1999.

She loved being with her family and treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, bowling in her bowling league at Auburn Lanes and gardening. She volunteered her time to the community as a member of The East Auburn Woman’s Auxiliary and working “The Little World’s Fair”, active member of Edward Little Class of 1958 Reunion committee (she loved her classmates), worked the snack bar for hundreds of Little League Games, and on most election days you could find Nancy at Washburn School helping with the Polls.

Nancy treated all extended family and friends of family just like immediate family. Always there to help when someone needed it. In turn, when she needed help the family pitched in and helped Nancy. She was beyond blessed with help and care from niece Mary Ellen Taylor, as well as Nancy’s daughter Sheryl, son Henry, and granddaughter Kimberly who all lived with her at some point and helped her with her care. She was also blessed with care from visiting nurses and the staff at St Mary’s Hospital who truly do god’s work.

She is survived by a daughter Sheryl Cotton and her husband Lloyd of Auburn, a son John Davenport and his wife Micole of Natick, Mass.; a brother Clifford “Kip” Arnold and wife Barbara of Turner, a sister Linda Spear and husband Harold of Canton; several nephews and nieces, Mary Ellen and Bob Taylor, Eileen and Michael Wisnewski, David and Melanie Arnold, Dan Arnold, Danny Spear, Mike and Renee Spear, Chris Spear and Brie Landry, Robin and Scott Alexander, James Spear; and nine grandchildren, Miranda Paiton and husband Matthew Gurney of Minot, Kristen Cotton and her companion Cameron Obie of Lewiston, Matthew Cotton and wife Jennie of Auburn, Kimberly Davenport and husband Ray Saucier of Jay, Crystal Davenport and her companion Matthew McVane of Leeds, Henry W. Davenport V “Ben” of Green, John Davenport II, and companion Atena Michelle Vilorio-Hernandez of Lowell, Mass. and James Davenport of Natick, Mass.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
