Cynthia Martel (Cindy Stewart)

VAN BUREN – With heavy hearts we must report that Cynthia Martel (Cindy Stewart), 65, passed away unexpectedly, suddenly and too soon in her hometown of Van Buren, Maine on Feb. 23, 2022.

Cindy was born on Nov. 10, 1956 to Richard and Yvette Stewart of Van Buren. Cindy spent her youth in the County, graduating from Van Buren High School in 1975. Shortly after, she moved to Lewiston and began a life there. In 1982 Cindy gave birth to her daughter, Tracy, who was her pride and joy in life. Don and Cindy married August 4, 1991 on Cindy’s parents 50th Anniversary. 10 years later, on August 4, 2001, they were blessed with their grandson Gage; who she adored. Cindy loved her family of four, and cherished every moment with them.

Cindy loved her profession as a Real Estate Agent at Cornerstone Realty in the 1990’s, before beginning a 21-year career with TD Bank. Cindy was a positive presence, be it a happy hello, witty comment, listening ear or some words of wisdom. Cindy loved helping others, especially friends and family. She lived her life dedicated to those she loved. Cindy was selfless, caring and loyal. She advocated for what was right and would always find ways to make things better. She was quick-witted, empowering, determined, strong, had a great sense of humor and loved a good laugh. She had a passion for interior decorating, and a love for shopping. Her ability to find a bargain was superb and she loved a good deal. Cindy loved weekend rides with Don in their 1970 Chevelle. She loved her annual shopping trip with the girls, and watching Hallmark movies. She was a hockey fan, especially for her grandson. You would often hear her loud, supportive cheer across the rink. She was an amazing Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, Sister, Daughter, Aunt, Friend.

Cindy lived with love, and will be so greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Don Martel; daughter, Tracy Barnies and fiancé Richard Madigan; grandson, Gage Doucette (All of Auburn); sister Kathleen and Robert Beaulieu (Van Buren); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her father, Richard Stewart, mother Yvette (Saucier) Stewart; sister Dorothy (Dot) Stewart; mother-in-law Lena Martel and father-in-law Robert Martel.

A Funeral Mass honoring Cynthia’s life will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Committal services will be held privately later in the spring at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway in Lewiston 784-4023.
