LEWISTON — The Public Theatre will present the nationally acclaimed Crabgrass Puppet Theatre’s production of “Jabberwocky,” one of the best-known and silliest poems in children’s literature, later this month.

Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s famous nonsensical poem, “Jabberwocky” is the tale of a young boy who sets out on a quest to find the fierce Jabberwock and travels through a mysterious landscape filled with such wondrous creatures as the slithy toves and the Jubjub bird.

The production uses a variety of whimsical hand and rod puppets to tell this  adventure story, complete with daring deeds, imaginary animals and a climactic battle between boy and beast.

“Jabberwocky is a humorous and entertaining introduction to poetry, as well as a delightful romp through the world of language and literature.

Crabgrass Puppet Theatre has performed” Jabberwocky” at such venues as the Smithsonian Institution, Detroit Institute for the Arts and the North Carolina Museum.

The 50-minute show is appropriate for all ages, including adults.
