FARMINGTON — Bates College men’s basketball coach Jon Furbush became the winningest coach in program history with the Bobcats’ 87-81 win over UMaine-Farmington on Monday.

Stephon Baxter score a game-high 31 points for Bates (9-9). Jahmir Primer added 20 points and Steven Ward came off the bench to contribute 11.

Terion Moss led the University of Maine-Farmington with 28 points and Jack Kane had 23.

The victory is Furbush’s 159, surpassing George Wigton, who coached the Bobcats from 1966 to 1986.

Furbush, who is 159-160 since being hired as Bates’ coach in 2008, also holds the program record for wins in a season, 21 in 2014-15.

UMF is coached by Sam Leal, who was Furbush’s assistant at Bates during the 2019-20 season.

KANE THROWS BLOCK PARTY: Jack Kane set a school record of his own over the weekend.

The senior from Cumberland tallied six blocks in a 99-64 win over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday, giving him 146 career blocks at UMaine-Farmington, setting a new school career blocks record.

Kane eclipsed the previous mark of 144, set by Luke Nielsen (2001-05).

BATES’ GRAFF JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB: Junior captain Meghan Graff scored a game-high 29 points and became the 21st player in Bates College women’s basketball history to join the 1,000 points club in a 64-59 loss at Trinity the past Saturday.

Graff joined the 1,000-points club on a 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining in regulation, giving her 1,002 points in her career.
