Maybe there is something in the aquifer and well water in Wales that prompted two fairly intelligent men, Randy Greenwood and Isaiah Lary, to not get the COVID-19 vaccines.

Greenwood contracted the virus and was hospitalized, put on a ventilator, and feared for his life, according to an article in this very paper. Science overwhelmingly supports the benefits of receiving the COVID-19 vaccines and booster shots; even former President Trump has received both the vaccine and a booster.

Unvaccinated people not only endanger themselves, but others, by utilizing scarce medical resources such as hospital beds and health care workers’ time. I was thusly surprised that the Sun Journal editors would give Greenwood the opportunity (“COVID is serious; so am I,” Dec. 26) to rationalize his belief that God would protect him, and had. I also pray daily, but will also follow the path that science has proven to protect me rather than relying on prayer alone.

I was surprised that the Sun Journal would print a guest column that expressed and justified ignoring the science when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines. In my opinion, the Sun Journal exhibited poor social and community responsibility when it gave Greenwood a forum to express his dangerous opinions.

Shame on both him and the Sun Journal.
