LEWISTON — For the second year in a row, Pepsi Beverages Company of New England has selected this All-America city as a site for Pepsi volunteers to help with a community project at Simard-Payne Memorial Park. The volunteers will be in the park starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.

The project will involve cutting brush along the riverbank between the walking bridge to Auburn and the bridge over the canal. Volunteers will use hand tools to cut vines and small trees to improve visibility of the water from the walking path. In addition, volunteers will also clean litter and remove other items that have washed ashore from high water over the years.

Megan Bates, deputy Public Works director, noted, “The result of this effort will be a more enjoyable experience for all the pedestrians who use the walk path daily and the thousands who attend events there during the summer.”

This project is a continuation of work already started by the city and other volunteer efforts in recent years.
