Usually, when I turn to the Maine section of the Sunday edition of the Sun Journal, I prepare myself for an onslaught of political opinions.

It was a delight Dec. 19 to read the columns of David Griffiths (“Blues and Blatz beer down south“) and Joaquin Contreras (“Poutine a la Maine may be a mess but it’s a sumptuous mess“).

The first described the writer’s warm welcome at a blues bar in small town Mississippi, where he was in the minority, and the latter extolled on the bonding effect of local French-Canadian cuisine.

Both columns were well written and a pleasure to read.

In these polemic times, the writers reminded us of what can bring us together. Often it is companionship, good music and of course, poutine.
