Gymnastics
RUMFORD — The Greater Rumford Community Center has announced the 2011 Maine YMCA State Gymnastics Championships to be held at Mountain Valley High School at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1.
Admission is free and donations are greatly appreciated.
Class of ’52
RUMFORD — The class of 1952 from Stephens High School will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 2, at Gatch’s. All class members and guests welcome.
Blazing Star
RUMFORD — Blazing Star Lodge #30 AF&AM will meet on Wednesday, May 3, on Route 232 in Rumford Corner. A supper will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the lodge opening will be at 7:30. All members are urged to attend.
Burgers and Things
RUMFORD — Rumford Lodge of Elks #862 will be holding Wednesday Night Burgers and Things throughout May. This is open to all members and guests. Serving time is from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Eat in or take-outs are available.
On the menu weekly is burgers, wings, chicken fingers, fries, garden salad and hand-dipped onion rings and pepper rings. Specials for the month are: May 4, steak sandwiches; May 11, meatball subs; May 18, steak sandwiches; and May 25, lobster rolls. June 1 will be the last Burger and Things Night for the summer.
Prayer day
RUMFORD — In observance of National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 5, a gathering will be held from 12:20 to 12:40 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park.
Everyone is encouraged to take this portion of their lunch break to spend a few moments in prayer for personal repentance and intercession for America’s leaders as well as for state and local leadership.
The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. For more information, call 364-8850.
Grange supper
DIXFIELD — Mystic Valley Grange, East Dixfield, will meet at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 6, for a potluck supper. The program will be CWA night. Dave Fuller from the cooperative extension will be talking about spruce gum. There will be music by Emery Thomson and Friend.
