LEWISTON — School Committee Chairwoman Megan Parks will step down as chairwoman, according to a statement posted to her Facebook page Monday.
“Managing a lot of unnecessary disruptions and intentional chaos over the last year and a half was nothing short of exhausting and often left me the target of misguided hatred and personal attacks,” she wrote.
Parks is entering her fourth term on the School Committee as the at-large representative and will remain on the committee.
“I believe that as the at-large rep, I can have more freedom of voice and serve as a more powerful advocate if I am not sitting at the head of the table, and that advocacy is needed now more than ever,” she continued. “For these reasons, I will be passing the gavel on to a new chair to be decided at our incoming member retreat (Monday night),” according to the post.
The chairperson will be elected at the next meeting in January.
Parks did not return a request for further comment Monday afternoon.
