WEST PARIS — Dr. Monica Henson, superintendent of SAD 17, and Carrie Colley, SAD 17 chief financial officer, attended the West Paris Board of Selectman meeting Thursday, Dec. 9, to discuss the finances of the district.
Henson made it clear the financial health of school is well and announced the district should be getting around $200,000 to $250,000 in annual revenue just by updating data involving staff degrees and certificates.
The board asked for a touch base on the bus driver shortage issue and Henson responded the $1,500 sign-on bonus hadn’t been effective to recruit drivers; however, they were able to maintain their current drivers.
In other news, following up on the Nov. 24 meeting where the selectman were still debating whether or not to buy the sidewalk snowblower called Trackless, Town Manager Joy Downing reached out to nearby towns to see what they were using in comparison. Downing found Woodstock using a bucket loader, Greenwood plowing on trucks, and Bethel using a snowblower and John Deer tractor with snow blades.
On a separate note, Downing was advised to spend some of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funds on paving some of the roads such as Steams Hill Road, Morse Hill Road, and Tuelltown Road. By doing this, it will reduce costs and leave the town with money left over.
Also at the Nov. 24 meeting, selectman Dale Diirainen motioned to use the Transfer Station Reserve Account funds on a ramp and stairs on the Transfer Station. This was met with unanimous agreement.
