100 Years Ago: 1921
Many local people who attended the psychology lecture classes of Mrs. Ellie McCollum Jones in Auburn in August will be interested to learn that the W.L.U. will have her here again to speak some time in December. Mrs. Willis Abbott is making the arrangements.
50 Years Ago: 1971
Fifty-three percent of the 1971 United Fund goal of $277,000 is pledged, or in hand, volunteers were informed at Steckino’s this morning, as they attended the third report meeting of the current campaign. The figures were given to them by Campaign Chairman Robert E. Quinton who said indications in reports he has received from his division leaders are that most of the necessary work has been accomplished, and from here on it’s mostly a matter of turning in reports at the U.F. office.
25 Years Ago: 1996
The Multi-Purpose Center on Birch Street, Lewiston, held an open house Oct. 22 when a ceremony was held in memory of city councilman George F. Ricker for his dedication and service to the center. A plaque was presented to Mrs. George Ricker and family members by Mayor John Jenkins and councilman Frank Kelley. Some of the people who attended were Tina Shannon, school board member, Mayor Jenkins, Frank Kelly, board member and family members Mrs. George Ricker, Thomas Shannon, school board member and son-in-law and Jeff Ricker.
