FRYEBURG  — Hundreds of high school students in western Maine and their teachers are folding paper to raise money to help people in Japan recover from the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

The students and staff at Fryeburg Academy are creating origami cranes that are being sold this week at the school for a dollar.

The academy’s Tracy Weitz (Weets)says there are two Japanese students at the school and a teacher came up with the idea of doing origami. The families of the two students were unhurt.

WMWV-FM radio says all proceeds from the sales will be donated to the American Red Cross for relief efforts.
