LEWISTON — The city will waive dumping fees for residents at the River Road landfill for for the last week of April.
Clean-up Assistance week for the second year in a row will run from April 23 to 30. It’s a successor program to the traditional curbside collection program.
Residents are allowed to truck in bulky items, like an old furniture, carpeting or mattresses, construction and demolition debris, wood waste, brush tree clippings and scrap metal to the landfill, at 424 River Road. They can also bring old televisions and computer monitors and refrigerators.
The landfill will also take up to four tires and two 20-pound propane gas cylinders.
The city will waive fees for all residents with proof — driver’s licenses, tax payment receipts or utility bills are required. The city won’t waive fees for commercial accounts, including owners of apartment buildings.
The facility will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for the collections. The city will also open the doors form 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 23 and 30 for spring clean-up dumping. The solid waste facility will not be open on Sundays.
The city also plans a curbside brush collection beginning April 25. All brush being collected must be at the curb no later than Sunday, April 24, with the butt-ends facing the street. The city will not collect stumps curbside.
Crews will tag household waste left curbside and will require residents to dispose of it themselves.
