AUBURN – Richard Warren Quaintance, 59, passed away in Auburn on August 12, 2023. Born in Bridgeport, Conn, Rick, as a child, moved with his parents, John and Elsie, from Fairfield, Conn. to Alna, Maine to be closer to relatives.
He graduated from Wiscasset High School, class of 1981. Rick attended Bangor Community College and, later, the University of Maine Orono and Augusta, earning an Architectural Arts degree and entry into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Rick was employed at LL Bean for many years, up until his passing.
Rick’s passion for the outdoors led him to become a registered Maine Guide. He loved getting people outside and often organized local paddling outings, freely sharing his gear and knowledge. In the winter, he’d introduce people to ice climbing. His competitive side saw him participating in distance, adventure, and canoe races.
Rick was an avid gardener, motorcyclist, home chef, and many other things, which this barely – if even – scratches the surface.
A fantastic spark, Rick encouraged and cheered people on to push themselves to their personal best. He was a wonderful listener and sounding board. His laughter and easy smile will be deeply and forever missed by his wife, Sarah Quaintance, and so very many good friends.
A celebration of life will be held in the fall.

In lieu of flowers, consider planting some. Participate in an outdoor clean-up, or donate to a charity/non-profit – suggestions being American Cancer Society, Maine Cancer Foundation, the Red Cross, Maine State Parks, Androscoggin Land Trust, Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association, MITA, NFCT, or a local animal shelter…. And then, go outside
