To the Editor:

I would like to take a moment to invite any and all community members local and elsewhere to join us in our 7th Annual Go Gold Event to bring awareness to Childhood Cancer.

On Saturday, September 2, we will be kicking things off at 11 a.m. with many activities to provide families with the chance to spend a day, cost-free, on our beautiful town common, enjoying music, food, and games! Food is by donation only.

The schedule of the day will include:

•  Food will consist of Popcorn, Cotton Candy, Baked Goods, Burgers, Hotdogs, Chips, and Water (again by donation only)

We will have donation jars available throughout the park and any donations will go directly to assisting childhood cancer families with expenses incurred during the childhood cancer treatment process. We have helped with housing, fuel costs, car maintenance to go to and from treatments, and in the worst-case scenario…. Funeral expenses.

We need to find a cure! Hailey Steward, founder of Team Hailey Hugs, whose mission was to find a cure and help these families along the way. Her mottos were “Just do it” and “We Are All Family”. Hailey lived by those mottos and considered everyone’s family as she fought her courageous battle from age 5 to 10.

Our community lost Hailey in 2017 and what a loss it was. Her mom and dad placed a memorial bench on the common where we held the event and I encourage everyone to visit and feel Hailey’s presence.

We look forward to seeing those smiling faces,

Missy Wakefield
